The United Nations Children''s Fund, UNICEF, was created in 1946 and works in Russia since March, 1997. Its main goal is to protect children’s rights and to help children and women who have live in difficult conditions. It helps orphans, children with physical and intellectual limitations, children born with HIV/AID from infected mothers and are deprived from parental care.Since 1999 UNICEF helps children and women, who are in the conditions of immigrants in the Northern Caucasus. Tented and wooden schools in camps of refugees in Ingushetia have started to work, and children have received textbooks, school-writing-materials, and sports equipment with the support of UNICEF. Today, UNICEF actively works in the Chechen Republic and due to its efforts 90000 people receive pure, potable water.All these programs have been traditionally financed and continue to be financed by the international community and nongovernmental organizations through UNICEF. Russian children are helped also by the contributions of private citizens from Germany, the Great Britain, Canada, the United States of America, and Finland among others.We encourage Russian citizens not to miss the opportunity to help in the realization of programs that seek the improvement of the welfare of children in Russia.
