30 January 2006. The UN Information Centre in Moscow and the Embassy of Sweden in the Russian Federation are organizing a presentation of the fresh report “Challenges of Peace Operations – into the 21st Century”, which was was formally presented to the UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan jn 19 January. The Report was produced by a team of prominent experts from 50 countries of the world, this document emerged from a project aimed at enhancing the efficiency of multilateral peacekeeping, initiated by the Swedish National Defence Council. The project has become a substantive contribution to the ongoing discussion on peacekeeping, largely shaped by the findings and recommendations contained in the Brahimi report published in 2000. The “Challenges” team has formulated a wealth of recommendations having to do both with the theory and the practice of UN peace operations.
