This year, the world celebrates the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration on Human Rights, adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in Paris on 10 December 1948. The traditional STALKER International Human Rights Film Festival, which is organized by the Guild of Russian Filmmakers for the 14th time and supported by the United Nations agencies in Russia for many years, will be dedicated to this date as well.

In the framework of the festival, the Office of the United Nations in the Russian Federation will hold a Round Table Discussion on the main theme of the 60th anniversary campaign ‘Dignity and justice for all of us’.

The round table will bring together government representatives, UN agencies (Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, United Nations Development Programme, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, United Nation Population Fund, UNAIDS, UNICEF, and UNESCO), civil society and film makers to discuss topics of interest stemming from the presented films in relation to the theme of ‘Stalker’ film festival.

During the round table, various UN agencies and their partners will talk about activities aimed at improving the human rights situation in their respective areas of expertise.

A particular focus will be the introduction by OHCHR of the special sub-topic of this year’s 60th anniversary campaign, which aims at highlighting the rights of persons in detention. In this respect, an active participation of the Federal Plenipotentiary Service is envisaged.
