[ENG] VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT - Migration Health Physician/Psychiatrist, IOM

Core Functions / Responsibilities:

  • Perform specialized medical evaluations of migrants to resettlement countries in accordance with the IOM standards and instructions and guidelines of the respecting immigration authorities. It includes the following tasks:
  • Psychiatric examination of migrants referred by the panel physicians.
  • Classification of conditions by DSM criteria V and filling out medical documentation in English.
  • Collection and review of additional medical information including referral to speech therapist and psychologist.
  • Interview and counselling of HIV infected migrants.

●         Evaluate migrants before the international flight; prepare medical escort documents in accordance with IOM SOP as needed.

●         Observe and perform urine testing for substance abuse and alcohol when needed.

●         Assess and organize new medical examination sites in relation to CIS circuit rides or upon a request from resettlement countries; participate in medical examination activities during circuit rides.

●         Review medical documents the beneficiaries, requesting extension of their status, and give recommendations.

●         Upon request participate in health assessment activities in other missions.

●         Contribute to health related project development.

●         Participate in conferences, seminars and workshops related to migration and health.

●         Perform other duties as may be assigned by the Chief Migration Health Officer and Clinical Team Leader.

Required Qualifications and Experience

Mandatory Readings:

      I.2010 Technical Instructions for Physical or Mental Disorders with Associated Harmful Behaviors and Substance-Related Disorders (revision 2014).

     II.American Psychiatric Association’s Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) criteria. (2013).

   III.Section 4 “Health Aspects of Movement Operations” in the IOM Migration Health Services Medical Manual (2001 Edition).

   IV.IOM Guidelines for Medical Escorts (1993), under revision.

University degree in Medicine, MD or equivalent, Master’s Degree of Science or PhD in Psychiatry is mandatory. Three years of professional experience in a busy health institution and valid professional attestation.


Fluency in English and Russian is required.
